Unifrance presents MyFrenchAnimationDays (MyFAD)

Animation plays an important role in the French film and audiovisual landscape: in 2023, France will be Europe's leading animation producer, and third in terms of exports.

This is why Unifrance has decided to develop MyFrenchAnimationDays (MyFAD): a special operation to highlight the creativity of French animation and its industry, and to raise awareness of it among audiences around the world, with the help of its partners and in particular its animation distributor and producer members.

Dates

The event will hinge on the International Animation Day (October 28) organisée par l’ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d'Animation), and will run from October 11 to 31, 2024, the dates of the Fête du Cinéma d’Animation in France run by the AFCA (Association Française du Cinéma d’Animation).

Territories

In line with Unifrance's actions for 2024 and market trends, Unifrance is rolling out the project in nine priority territories: Poland, Spain, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, USA, Canada, and Mexico (this list is subject to change, with the project remaining open to other territories depending on the interest shown in the event).

Program

MyFAD consists of three key events targeting all ages and the general public.

  • Discovery workshops with schools - target participants: pre-school and schoolchildren (3-9 years)
        - A program of animation workshops for schools, offering a range of activities based on animated series.
        - A resource kit will be made available to teachers, including episodes of the series for classroom broadcast, videos explaining the genesis of the characters in question, and a teacher's guide.
  • Art and technique masterclasses - target participants: 15-25 year-olds, students and the general public
Two masterclasses with question-and-answer sessions will be offered live at the opening presentation, and rebroadcast on social networks.
    - One will focus on animation creator Jérémy Zag, accompanied by his producer Aton Soumache (to be confirmed) for a discussion on his series
Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir.
    - The other will focus on French training and know-how, with the director of a leading French animation school (negotiations underway) and industry professionals.
  • Special sessions - target participants: all audiences
Film screenings (previews or special screenings) will be organized in the theatrical circuit via a call for applications to international distributors.
    - The call for films is open to feature-length, majority-French animated films, complementing the non-commercial circulation of films from the IF Cinéma catalog (Chicken for Linda!, Nina and the Tales of the Hedgehog, Sirocco and the Kingdom of the Winds, Mars Express). The criteria for participation in the call give preference to films from this year's Cannes and Annecy festivals, but also to other recent films based on their international distribution.
    - An episode of The Legends of Paris : a Tale of the 19th century Artistic Scene (produced by Silex Films and sold by ARTE Distribution) will be available to Instituts Français and other cinemas interested in programming it.
